Lena Lebel

Lena Lebel, is the founder, chairman and CEO of Bioventia Holding AB, Bioventia Capital AB and Bioventia Life Science Consultants KB.

Lena has a Master of Science in Pharmacy. In 1985, she was employed at Pharmacia AB as an Industrial Ph.D. student and in 1989, she published her thesis in medical chemistry at the faculty of medicine, University of Uppsala. She has actively participated as a speaker at several international conferences and has published 12 peer-revieved publications and reviews. In 1987 Lena was a visiting research fellow at the Dept of Medicine, Royal Melbourne Hospital, Melbourne, Australia.

During her 15 years of employment within the Pharmacia group of companies (1985-2000, now Pfizer), Lena occupied a number of senior positions. As projectleader at Pharmacia Biomaterial, 1989-1992, she held the overall responsibility for a portfolio of exploratory, preclinical and laterstage clinical projects on Hyaluronan within different orthopedic indications. From 1992-1996 as Head of Clinical Research, Urology and co-projectleader Detrol, as well as being responsible for the clinical activities on already marketed products within the field, Lena was also responsible for the planning and implementation of the international Phase I-III clinical programme to take Detrol, a new blockbuster drug candidate up to registration. After filing 1996, Detrol reached worldwide sales of +0.7 billion USD in 2002 and is estimated to reach 1.3 billion USD by 2011. From 1996-2000, Lena was responsible for the activities on a portfolio of inlicensed already marketed drugs covering a wide array of different areas and markets, including e.g. the Pharmacia Byk-Gulden co-marketing agreements on Pantoprazole within the gastroenterology area, and the Pharmacia Tanabe licensing agreement on Diltiazem within the cardiovascular / hypertension areas. In addition to being responsible for very large, international drug development programmes in Europe, US and Asia, Lena has also been a member of several international executive steering committees comprising members from Pharmacia market companies, University collaborations and licensing partners world-wide.

In parallel with her work at Pharmacia, Lena completed a Master of Business and Administration in international business at the University of Uppsala (1998) resulting in the publication of an exam paper on valuation of biotechnology start-up companies.

Since 1997, she has also been running her own consulting business, within the area of business development in life science and has actively participated in the start-up of several new companies within the drug development e.g. Melacure and venture capital area e.g. Innoventus. She is also member of the board of Uppsala Glunten Rotary Club (2002-2004) and a member of the board of trustees of Kidsunique Inc. NY (2002-) and The Emerging World Film Forum (2004-)
